Ravelglen Rocky wins the (ROI) Irish Moiled Cattle Society National at Tullamore Show
Tullamore Show provided the setting for the (ROI) IMCS National. Judging the Irish Moiled classes was Paul Boal, well known judge and classifier for IHFA.
Six year old Ravelglen Rocky, the current stock bull at Killua Castle was crowned overall supreme breed champion. Ravelglen Rocky is no stranger to the show ring and has a remarkable showing career with a large number of red rosettes and championships awarded to him over the years. Sire Glenmaquin Blossom – Dam Ravelgeln Aggie shown by Anthony Gilsenan, Co. Meath (bred by Brian O’Kane, Martinstown).
Reserve Champion went to a superb young cow Beechmount Lizzie 2 owned by Joe Boyce from Co. Limerick (bred by Robert Boyle, Millisle) sire Curraghnakeely Masterpiece – Dam Knowehead Liz shown by Joe’s son Shane Boyce who was awarded the N & M Irish Moilie Cup which was presented on the day by Brian O’Kane IMCS director, to best improved novice breeder winning the most show points at agricultural shows during 2023.
Special mention to John Gileesan and his daughters Anna Rose and Shauna from Co. Tipperary on their first outing showing Irish Moileds who won the calf class with their striking bull calf Whitehall Rocky, Sire Atlantic High Tide – Dam Woodbine Joy.
Judge’s Comments :-
Unfortunately numbers were small in the Moilies… My overall champion was a six year old bull, Ravelglen Rocky, strong through his chest and fore rib, walking on excellent legs and feet. The Reserve Champion was first calved heifer Beechmount Lizzie, a lovely young cow, strong top line, deep body, full of breed character with an excellent udder, full of milk. The calf placed 1st place was very well developed for its age, turned out very professionally and had the advantage over the second place calf in being stronger in the chest and top line, it also had better locomotion particularly in the hinds legs.
The Irish Moiled Cattle Society would like to thank the organisers of Tullamore Show for once again hosting Irish Moiled classes. Tullamore Show is one of the best shows for showcasing Irish Moileds, the interest from farmers attending the show to find out and hear more about the breed is phenomenal. Thank you to Paul Boal for judging the classes and finally to the Irish Moiled breeders who entered, the feedback was ‘while numbers were small the standard was as good as ever’.
