BETTON DARCIE WINS 2025 IRISH MOILED (GB) National at WESTMORLAND SHOW

BETTON DARCIE WINS IRISH MOILED (GB) NATIONAL

AT WESTMORLAND COUNTY SHOW

The supreme champion title of the Irish Moiled GB national show went to Betton Darcie, a 3-year-old 1st calver cow with a heifer calf at foot, Betton Dahlia a homebred cow and calf

outfit owned by Nathalie Chitty of Shropshire. The June 2022 born Betton Darcie whose dam Clandeboye Dora now classified at EX92 points was purchased by Nathalie as a young maiden heifer in the very first Autumn 2020 online H & H Magnificent Moilie sale. Clandeboye Dora gave birth to Betton Darcie in June 2022, the sire is the A.I bull, Ravelglen Owney.

Reserve champion of the Irish Moiled GB national show was won by Frank Hunter of Cumbria with the junior bull Magheratimpany Bart, bred by R & C Maxwell of Co. Armagh, N. Ireland. This young bull not only won his breed class at the 2025 Balmoral show, also won Irish Moiled reserve junior champion – Sire Ballyvesey Charlie -Dam Ravelglen Louise.

Both Nathalie Chitty and Frank Hunter are new to showing Irish Moiled cattle making their debut at the Irish Moiled Cattle Society national held at Westmorland County show, both breeders taking home championship rosettes.  While numbers of Irish Moilies were few, it cannot be taken away from the quality of the animals who took home championships awards as they competed against any other native breeds such as Belted Galloways and Red Devons.

The first class was the cow mixed native class which included Irish Moilies, Belted Galloways and South Devons. The young Irish Moiled cow with her heifer calf won the class. Betton Darcie was awarded the female champion in the mixed native class, she then went on to be crowned the overall supreme champion in the mixed native class before being crowned the Irish Moiled GB national show supreme champion and if Nathalie hadn’t a successful enough day, she won best exhibitor bred animal with Betton Darcie. Not many breeders on their first outing showing Irish Moiled cattle can say that. A huge well done to the Chitty family. Nathalie being new to halter breaking and showing Irish Moilies enlisted the help of Keadyview Livestock specialists, Steven and Helen O’Kane who have a soft spot for the Irish Moiled and who were delighted to help Nathalie accomplish her dream of showing her cattle.

Frank Hunter, another new GB Irish Moiled breeder also had a tremendous day with his young Irish Moiled bull Magheratimpany Bart who after taking 1st in the mixed native bull class also won overall male champion in the mixed native class before being crowned GB national reserve overall Irish Moiled champion. A huge well done to these two breeders and to the team behind them.

The Society would like to mention thanks to the encouragement given to the new Irish Moiled breeders by IMCS GB directors and IMCS Chairperson Dan Bull. Alongside the directors there were also the Irish Moiled breeders who also helped man the Society stand, to Lyn Arrowsmith who provided one of her Irish Moiled cows for the stand, the photographers who captured the event, also Keadyview Livestock specialists for their help, work and support, particularly Helen.  Finally, and by no means least thank you to Westmorland Show, we hope there will be a bigger turnout of Irish Moiled’s next year.

If you would love to get an Irish Moiled, the Society have an online H & H Magnificent Moilie auction taking place from noon Thur 25th Sept concluding noon Sat 27th Sept. Most of the cattle will be able to be exported. Keep following the Irish Moiled social media and IMCS website for more details and online catalogue of entries.
