The IMCS Society during covid times commenced the International Irish Moiled Cattle Society online show which over the years has attracted large numbers of entries from breeders in NI, GB and ROI. Whilst agricultural shows are back to normal, due to the popularity of the online show which not only opens the opportunity for new breeders who have never shown before to enter, it also provides the only competition for breeders in all three constituencies to enter and compete against one another without their animals having to leave the farm. The haltered section still requires the input of washing, preparing and leading the animal as if it was in the showring at an agricultural show, the only difference is that photos and videos require to be taken which can be a bit more challenging when taking photos of the cattle in the field for breeders entering in the non-haltered section. Another purpose of the online show, it gives the opportunity to gain experience and confidence to halter break, lead your animals, take photos and videos, the purpose being when it comes to entering the Magnificent Moilie online sale where photos, videos presentation and leading the animal are the main visual part of promotion online when it comes to selling your animal. The online platform to enter which has now been fined tuned and set up by Sally Crowe (IMCS director based in Scotland), this is the same platform used for entering the online sale, again another important reason for keeping on the online show for breeders to learn the pathway of how to enter online sales. Several prize-winning animals in the 2025 International Online Show have also been entered in the upcoming H & H Magnificent Moilie online sale, taking place from 25th Sept concluding at noon on 27th Sept.
It was decided last year that due to the large number of entries in historic years, to split the judging of the haltered and non-haltered sections. In 2025, Caroline Maxwell from Armagh owner of the Magheratimpany herd judged the haltered section and Rachel Armour from Maghera owner of the Beagh herd judged the non-haltered section. Both Judges then came together with their respective champions from the haltered and non-haltered sections and crowned the Overall Supreme Champion and Overall Reserve Supreme Champion of the International Irish Moiled Cattle Society online show.

It was a senior bull from the non-haltered section who was crowned Champion of Champions – after winning the non-haltered champion section, male champion and the senior bull class – Glassdrummond Magician 2546 owned by Mervyn and Rachel Garrett from Islandmagee, Co. Antrim, bred by Sam Smiley, Ballynahinch, Co. Down. This was the first time Mervyn and Rachel entered the online show, emphasizing the essence of having the courage to try something new like entering the online show and going on to win the victory title. No strangers to entering the online show are N & M Moilies (Nigel Edwards and Michelle McCauley) who went on to win reserve champion of champions with their heifer calf Curraghnakeely Penny Lee 0694 who also won the overall champion in the haltered section, haltered female champion and winner of the heifer calf class in the haltered section, bred by Nigel Edwards, Tempo, Co. Fermanagh.

In the haltered championship the male champion, overall reserve haltered champion and winner of the senior bull class went to Woodbine Casper EX97 owned by Brian O’Kane, Ballymena bred by Ciara and James White. Brian also went on to win female reserve champion and junior heifer in the haltered section with a homebred animal – Ravelglen Ramona 584.

Reserve male champion and winner of the bull class in the haltered section went to Rockhill Alan again another homebred animal bred by Joe Boyce, Co. Limerick

In the non-haltered section overall reserve champion, female champion and winner of the senior cow class went to Glassdrummond Cherry 97 owned and bred by Sam Smiley, Ballynahinch, Co. Down.

Reserve female champion and winner of the intermediate heifer class in the non-haltered section went to Linglass Midsummer owned and bred by Sally Crowe, Keiss, Scotland.

JUGES COMMENTS IN THE HALTERED SECTION
– CAROLINE MAXWELL
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for putting the time and effort into entering the online show, the overall quality of animals put forward was tremendous, a real credit to each herd and the Irish moiled breed. All classes were packed with quality animals which made judging no easy task.
I was looking for a structurally correct animal with length and depth of the body, width of pins and hips, a stylish appearance and a personal preference a traditionally marked Irish moiled.
The bull calf class Rockhill Alan immediately stood out, this wee bull has great width at the back end a very naturally grown calf with super potential, very closely followed behind was Curraghnakeely Bertie who is a very well put together animal.
Bull class 1st place went to Woodbine Casper who is no stranger to the online show. a very well matured bull who is picture perfect.
Junior heifer class 1st place was Ravelglen Ramona 584 this is an outstanding animal with great length and movement, she will be a great cow maker, in close 2nd is Curraghnakeely Lily 0652, a very well-balanced heifer, both lovely animals, a real credit to both breeders.

The cow class was no easy task to judge and by far the hardest class as every animal entered was top quality, my winner was Ravelglen Bidi, this cow has fantastic shape, a lovely square full udder and has an all-round good appearance. 2nd place went to Burren Princess Pandora who is no stranger to the online show. It was very much a flip of the coin moment between these two animals
The biggest class to judge was the heifer calf class, with a great selection of quality heifers put forward. The first animal to catch my eye was Curraghnakeely Penny-lee 0694 albeit the youngest calf in the class, she just oozes quality, a real showy animal with great structure throughout, one for the future. It was from here that I found my overall champion of the haltered section in Curraghnakeely Penny- lee 0694, beautifully presented by Nigel and Michelle, with reserve champion in the haltered section going to Woodbine Casper an 8 year old well matured Irish moiled bull, both completely different types of animals, but both are brilliant examples of the breed.

– RACHEL ARMOUR
My overall non haltered champion Glassdrummond Magician 2546 is a well-balanced bull, displaying exceptional length, power, and depth. He combines excellent fleshing ability with a strong topline and plenty of locomotion. His commanding presence ensures he truly stood out from the first time I saw him. It was very close between this bull and my senior cow winner who got reserve overall champion in the non-haltered section – Glassdrummond Cherry 97. This cow shows remarkable youthfulness for her age, maintaining excellent overall condition. She possesses a strong, well-structured topline and walks with ease and fluidity. Her udder is in great shape, reflecting sound conformation and ongoing productivity. Overall, she is in perfect condition and continues to present exceptional quality for her age. My reserve male champion Ballyvesey Robocop a standout young bull, just over a year old, with impressive natural muscle, depth of body, and strong, free-flowing movement. Bursting with potential for the future. My reserve female champion Linglass Midsummer is an exceptional two-year-old heifer who displays a perfect balance of style, strength, and breed character. She possesses impressive length and depth, with a frame that is both powerful and feminine. Her strong bone structure adds to her presence, while her overall balance and quality reflect her potential as a future breeding female. A heifer of this calibre stands out not only for her physical attributes but also for the promise she holds for continued success.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took the time to enter. The quality of stock on display was a credit to all involved, and it was a real pleasure and privilege to judge such a great lineup.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

The overall supreme champion, Glassdrummond Magician 2546, truly distinguished himself as a remarkable bull. He is a well-balanced individual exhibiting outstanding length, strength, and depth. His exceptional fleshing ability is complemented by a solid topline and impressive movement. It was a unanimous decision he was chosen as the overall.
The striking heifer calf, Curraghnakeely Penny-Lee 0694. A truly impressive young heifer calf with great structure and movement, she is undoubtedly one to watch for the future. Although she was nominated as our reserve overall, it in no way diminishes her as it was a very narrow decision. She was beautifully pictured and presented.
