Ballyreagh Lily tops Magnificent Moilies Sale at £2,950

Autumn has returned and so has the Magnificent Moilies autumn online auction conducted by auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington, Carlisle.  Quality entries of Irish Moiled cattle were on offer from all three constituencies. The sale commanded some of the top prices for young females. Cows averaged £2,000, heifers averaged £1,740 and bulls averaged £1192.

The leader of the sale at £2,950 went to a very smart 9-month-old heifer calf, Ballyreagh Lily 6757 continuing her success from Antrim show in July when she was crowned the N. Ireland Irish Moiled Cattle Society National calf champion. Ballyreagh Lily 6757, consigned by N & M Moilies (Nigel Edwards & Michelle McCauley) bred by William Edwards of Tempo, Co. Fermanagh is heading to her new home south of the border to Niall Curran from Co. Mayo who also purchased the next two top prices of the sale, a very stylish homebred heifer Beechmount Charlie from the renown Beechmount herd of Robert Boyle of Millisle Co. Down for £2,550 and another consignment from N & M Moilies (Nigel Edwards & Michelle McCauley) bred by William Edwards, Ballyreagh Pandora 6771 a well-made young heifer calf from the well-known Pandora cow family.

A return buyer at previous Magnificent Moilie sales was Chitty Farms Ltd., Shropshire who purchased the fourth joint highest price in the sale another heifer calf, Curraghnakeely Bessie 0608, at £2,050 consigned by (N & M Moilies) Nigel Edwards & Michelle McCauley bred by Nigel Edwards, Tempo, Co. Fermanagh.  Chitty Farms Ltd. went on to purchase two further lots in the sale again consignments from N & M Moilies – Curraghnakeely Bluebell 0482 and Curraghnakeely Bessie 0556, both young cows.

The other joint fourth highest price at £2,050.00 was the young in-calf cow Curragnakeely Pandora 0466 from (N & M Moilles) bred by Nigel Edwards purchased by Andrew McKee from Newtownards, Co. Down another return buyer of the Magnificent Moilie sale who also secured for his newly founded herd a beautifully presented heifer Beechmount Cherry owned by Robert Boyle.
