Irish Moiled Cattle Society held their recent breeders day at the 2000 acre Clandeboye Estate, Bangor, Co. Down. Home of the Blackwood family since early seventeenth century. IMCS President Mark Logan has been managing the Clandeboye Estate farm since 1991. Alongside the Holstein and jersey cows the estate also run the pedigree Clandeboye Irish Moiled herd.
Breeders met in Clandeboye Courtyard the heart of the estate for tea/coffee/scones surrounded by the charming 18th century buildings. Mark gave a talk about Clandeboye Estate and the Clandeboye herd of Irish Moileds which were established in 2012 giving the group an insight into his knowledge and expertise in managing such a large estate. Fergus the Head gardener at Clandeboye then took the group on a tour around the beautiful gardens showing the many species of plants and trees.
On route to see the Clandeboye Irish Moileds, the breeders were able to walk pass Clandeboye House the exterior of which is very the same as when it was built in the 17th century, the house is surrounded by wildflowers creating an incredible biodiverse space for bees, butterflies and insects.
Breeders got the opportunity to further hear and see the Clandeboye herd of Irish Moileds running alongside the stock bull Ballyvessey Pfizer.
Returning to the courtyard breeders were treated to a Killua Irish Moiled beef burgers cooked to perfection by The Griddle outdoor catering/Angus Farm Shop. A ballot took place before breeders got the opportunity to take part in a question and answer session on anything to do with Irish Moileds.
A very enjoyable event was had by all and a huge thank you to Mark and the team at Clandeboye, and everyone who supplied deserts, prizes and purchased ballot tickets. A donation was give to Air Ambulance NI.
