On Sat 30th May the Native and Traditional Cattle Breed classes at Ballymena Show was judged by Libby Clarke of Magheralin. Libby is no stranger to a multiple number of cattle breeds and in particular, is retired breeder of the very famous Springfield Irish Moiled herd.

Congratulations to Brian O’Kane of Martinstown for taking Champion in the Native and Traditional breed section with his fabulous, perfectly coloured Irish Moiled cow….Carnearney Rose, beating off stiff competition from other breeds such as Red Lincoln’s and Whitebred Shorthorns. Brian had a great day at Ballymena show taking home 3 first prizes and 1 second prize as well as the championship.

On Sat 6th June 2015, Richard McConnell of Glenwherry was back on judging duty at Lurgan Show. Richard had his judging skills well practised after judging the Irish Moiled’s at Balmoral show, 3 weeks earlier. Around a full decade ago, Richard was himself winning many Breed Champions.
It was Nigel Edwards from Tempo that took home the Breed Champion with his 5 year old cow, Roes-Hall Lizzy, bred by retired breeder Noel Porter of Gilford. Roes-Hall Lizzy went on to take the Supreme Native and Traditional Interbreed title under the watchful eyes of combined judges, Richard McConnell and Deidre Hilton, Dexter enthusiast.
Congratulations to Sam Smiley of Ballynahinch in clinching Reserve Breed Champion with his yearling heifer Glassdrummond Cherry 74th.

Finn Valley Show was held on Sat 27th June with Irish Moiled Cattle classes judged by Ken Hamilton of Derrygonnelly, Co. Fermanagh. Ken is a well-known rare breed cattle enthusiast and is the owner of the long-time established Minran Irish Moiled herd.

Congratulations to Seamus Holmes of Killygordon in winning Breed Champion with his nicely coloured, stylish homebred heifer Dungallia Dora. This is the 2nd consecutive year that this heifer has collected the title of Breed Champion at Finn Valley Show.

Also, congratulations to Mark McConnell of Castlefinn in collecting Reserve Breed Champion with his well fleshed homebred bull calf Macmann Danny Boy.

On Sat 4th July 2015, the judging of the Native and Traditional Breed cattle classes at Omagh show fell to the capable hands of Vaughn Byrne of Dromara, a fantastic enthusiast of all Rare, Native and Traditional Breeds of livestock.

Congratulations to J. Baxter of Newtownstewart in collecting the Champion award with her homebred Irish Moiled stock bull, Beauty Hill Brigadier.

On Thur 9th July 2015 Victor Campbell from Lisburn, owner of the Mullacarton herd of Irish Moiled’s travelled to Bannow Rathangan Show in Co. Wexford to judge the Irish Moiled classes. A good turnout of cattle were presented for the Co. Antrim man to judge.

Congratulations to Mark Mc Connell of Donegal in collecting Breed Champion with his well-balanced, stylish cow, Gortluchra Bluebell bred by Willy McCarthy of Cork.

Also, congratulations to James Whyte of Wexford in collecting Reserve breed Champion with his heavy-weight bull, Tully Jack bred by Wilbert and Mary Forsythe of Portglenone.

On sat 18th July 2015, Mark McConnell travelled from Donegal to judge the Irish Moiled classes at Castlewellan show situated at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. Mark is owner of the Macmann herd of Irish Moiled’s, a relatively new breeder, but has been very successful in the show ring with cattle he has exhibited himself as well as with cattle sold from the Macmann herd that have been exhibited by others.

Congratulations goes this time to Nigel Edwards of Tempo in collecting Breed Champion with his 5 year old cow, Roes Hall Lizzy bred by retired breeder Noel Porter of Gilford.

And lastly, but not least congratulations to John Smiley of Ballynahinch in getting 3rd place in the Overall Beef Young Handler, 8 – 13 years age group.

On sat 25th July 2015, the Irish Moiled classes at Antrim Show was judged by Irish Moiled Cattle Society Vice-President John Stronge. John is certainly no stranger to Irish Moiled’s as he had been herd manager of the Belleuve herd of Irish Moiled’s at Belfast zoo. He was also Registrar of the Society for many years and was one of the core people in helping to revive the breed in the early 1980’s.

Congratulations to Robert Boyle of Millisle in collecting both Breed Champion and Reserve Breed Champion with Beechmount Bambs and Beechmount Daisy respectively.

On Sun 9th Aug 2015 John Brennan of Co. Roscommon owner of the Ballymurray Irish Moiled herd did judging duties at Tullamore Show for the Irish Moiled breed classes.

Congratulations to Mark Mc Connell of Co. Donegal on defending the Championship title with his home bred bull Macmann Bullagh Bos taking Breed Champion for the 2nd year on the trot.

Also, congratulations to James Gannon of Co. Roscommon in getting Reserve breed champion with his homebred heifer, Cluain Conrach Ivy 2 a strong white heifer.

On Wed 29th July 2015, the Hereford Breed judge, also judged the Native and Rare Breed classes at Clogher Valley Show 2015.

Two Irish Moiled calves were exhibited by Robert Mc Cormick of Omagh which were awarded 2nd and 3rd prize in the junior class. In the championship it was the cattle from the junior class that took the eye of the judge with a young Dexter bull getting overall champion with Robert Mc Cormick’s Irish Moiled calf, Baronagh Poppy lifting Reserve Champion.

On Sat 15th Aug 2015 John Stronge, no stranger to the Moilie world was back on judging duty after his previous judging engagement at Antrim show some 2 weeks earlier.

Congratulations to Robert Boyle in winning his 3rd championship this year with Beechmount Bambs, a 2 year old heifer being crowned Breed Champion. This heifer went on to take 2nd in Reserve in the Interbreed round.

Also, congratulations goes to Nigel Edwards and Michelle Mc Cauley on collecting Reserve Breed Champion with a yearling bull, Curraghnakeely Mr. G on his 1st trip out.
