Moilies in Moffat -
Saturday 24th August
The Irish Moiled Cattle Society are holding a farm walk of the Ballylinney Irish Moiled herd to take place at 1:30 pm on Sat 24th August 2019 at the farm of Derek and Cindy Steen, Moffat, Scotland. The Ballylinney herd was founded in 2010 with Derek and Cindy selecting their foundation stock from several of the top herds of Irish Moiled cattle throughout Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, handpicking elite cattle from the very best cow families. In a very short period, top quality Irish Moiled breeding stock was being produced by Derek and Cindy and indeed their very first time to ever exhibit Irish Moiled’s was at the Royal Three Counties Showgrounds at Malvern in 2015 which saw them win Breed Champion with a powerful homebred senior heifer, Ballylinney Harriet 3rd. Derek comments that the Irish Moiled cattle suits their system in Scotland, the cattle are tremendously hardy and can withstand the harsh climate, they forage marginal pasture with minimal poaching of the ground, they are a very easy cared cows that require little or no assistance at calving time, producing a good calf year on year.
