RBSTNI Gosford 2016

N. Ireland’s National show of Irish Moiled cattle was once again held in the picturesque setting of Gosford Forest Park at the RBSTNI show and sale on Sat 3rd Sept. This event is one of the highlights of the year for Irish Moiled breeders and they were delighted to have long standing Director and Vice–President of the Irish Moiled Cattle Society, Mr. Chris Ball of Staffordshire, England, a highly respected breeder of Irish Moiled cattle officiating as master judge. Mr. Ball couldn't praise highly enough the quality of the cattle presented to him for judging.

The Supreme Breed Champion title went to Robert Boyle of the Beechmount herd in Millisle, County Down with the beautifully marked and outstanding maiden heifer Cultra Lorraine bred by the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra, Holywood, County Down.

Taking home the title of Reserve Supreme Breed Champion was the impressive bull Beauty Hill Brigadier bred and exhibited by Albert Baxter and family of Newtownstewart, County Tryrone.  This bull is no stranger to having success in the show-ring, having taken the Championship title at the Royal Ulster Agricultural Show in May.

The Irish Moiled Calf Championship was won by Eddie Giboney of Beragh, Co.Tyrone with his beautiful homebred heifer calf Tyrone Honeysuckle, this young heifer looks to have a promising future. It was Albert Baxter and family again who collected the Reserve Calf Champion spot with a strong bull calf Beauty Hill Ernie.

The Irish Moiled cattle that were exhibited in the breed classes competed strongly in the Interbreed classes with a multitude of prizes

been awarded to Irish Moiled cattle by interbreed judge Robin Hood. In the Senior Interbreed Tesco Derby both the Champion and Reserve Champion spot went to Irish Moiled cattle when the senior cow from Nigel Edwards of Tempo, Co. Fermanagh was just tapped out ahead of the senior bull from Albert Baxter and Family. In the Junior Interbreed Tesco Derby, Albert Baxter and family’s success continued by collecting the Reserve Champion spot with a yearling heifer. The Irish Moiled Calf Champion from Eddie Giboney collected the Reserve Champion spot in the Calf Interbreed Tesco Derby, second to the overall Supreme Interbreed Champion of the day, a Beef Shorthorn calf. Albert Baxter and family’s very successful day was rounded off by collecting the Interbreed pair championship with two very well balanced and matched Irish Moiled bull calves.

Top young handler was Cole Hogg, Millisle.  Runner up was John Smiley, Ballynahinch.
