Sylvia takes first Irish Moiled Junior Championship at Castlewellan
From the early morning mists on Saturday 21st July 2014, exhibitors from across Co Down brought out a great display of Irish Moiled Cattle at Castlewellan Forest Park for the annual Agricultural Show. In 2013 we saw the very first Irish Moiled Classes at the show and this year classes where expanded further with the introduction of a Junior Championship kindly sponsored by Taylors (fyfin) Ltd.
Judging duties fell on Irish Moiled Cattle Society Honorary Life Member, Louise Smith, Warwickshire and first up was faced with a strong class of cows and after some careful consideration Roeshall Lizzie claimed 1st prize from Nigel Edwards, Tempo. In the heifer class style was a plenty and it was Beechmount Daisy from Robert Boyle, Millisle that caught the judges eye. Next up was the Bull class with 3 entries with Macmann Apple leading the way in 1st place.
The junior championship saw a good turnout of youngstock all showing great potential but it was Curraghnakeely Sylvia the 1st daughter of the 1st place cow from Nigel Edwards who claimed the championship with Tommy Jackson’s Milltown Pink Lady in Reserve.
Overall Champion went to Tommy Jackson’s, Macmann Apple who has been on top form this summer on most of his outings on the summer show circuit. This was followed up by Junior Champion Curraghnakeely Sylvia the 1st as overall reserve Champion kindly sponsored by Jubilee Veterinary Centre, Newtownards.
