Balmoral Show 2016
Balmoral Show 2016 proved to be a resounding success for the Baxter family from Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone when their homebred bull Beauty Hill Brigadier took the breed championship, and their junior bull Beauty Hill Eithan won the junior bull class. This must be a first for two maternal brothers to win both the senior and junior bull classes at a major show.
In the cow class, which was the first class of the day, Nigel Edwards from Tempo, Co. Fermanagh took the red rosette with the lovely Roes-
The biggest class of the day was for the junior heifers, when five well matched & beautifully presented heifers fought out an exceedingly close contest which was won by Robert Boyle’s elegant heifer Cultra Lorraine, whose superior markings & style just edged out the dark coloured Beauty Hill Europa. Europa had a better rump & topline over her sister Beauty Hill Eclipse. Robert Boyle’s other two heifers were very close in fourth & fifth.
Junior bulls were headed by the Baxter’s youngster Beauty Hill Eithan, whose stature and power gave him an advantage over Robert Boyles Beechmount Spectre. Brian O’Kane from Ballymena, Co. Antrim had a little trouble persuading the young Ravelglen Cal to parade around the ring but this young bull is sure to develop with maturity.
Champion breed pair and the winner of the Tully Farm Cup went to Robert Boyles well-
Beauty Hill Brigadier took the Overall Breed championship and the Pennielea Trophy. This excellent Irish Moiled Bull represented the breed superbly in the Overall Beef Interbreed competition. Roes-
Junior Breed Champion was awarded to the stylish heifer Cultra Lorraine who again went on to represent the breed superbly in the Junior Interbreed Beef competition. It was Beauty Hill Eithan who picked up the Reserve Junior Breed Champion spot.
